Because using paraffin now, when there are a huge number of more practical alternatives, is at least outdated. Natural wax candles melt evenly, without forming tunnels or leaving "rims" on the edges. This can result in the flame heating the glass, which can eventually crack. The wooden wick also needs to be trimmed periodically, or the flame will be too high. A useful tip from Kaori: if your candle stops crackling after you trim the wick, gently separate the wooden pieces with manicure scissors.
